Emilia Isabel Euphemia Rose Clark is an English actress best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series Game of Thrones. Clarke had a Broadway debut in a production of Breakfast at Tiffany’s in March 2013. In 2015, she played Sarah Connor in the film Terminator Genisys. She was also named Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive in 2015. Clarke was born in London, and spent her early life in Berkshire. Her father was a theatre sound engineer. At the age of three, Clarke found an interest in acting after seeing the musical Show Boat on which her father worked. Clarke attended Rye St. Antony School and at St Edward’s School, Oxford and graduated from the Drama Centre London in 2009.
Clarke first early works include two plays at St. Edwards, ten plays at Drama Centre London, the 2009 Company of Angels production of Sense, and ‘two 2009 commercials for the Samaritans.’ In 2010, Clark was cast as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO medieval fantasy series Game of Thrones, after fellow British actress Tamzin Merchant was replaced for unknown reasons. Her audition included the funky chicken and robot dance. The show debuted in April 2011 to positive review and HBO picked it up for a second season.
