Iggy Pop was an incredibly influential and powerful performer whose effects on the music industry can still be felt to this day. He also shares a legacy that most would not envy, as he was one of the primary inspirations for David Bowie. Watching him grow into prominence, exceed him in greatness, and then pass from the world before him must have carried such pain as that typically only known by a parent who outlives their child.
Like Bowie, his career is a long and storied one, with his immense influence coming to affect multiple genres of music with songs so definitive that even if you don’t know the name, you know the songs. To honor Bowie would be incomplete without including an examination of the man whose name inspired Bowie’s first persona, “Ziggy Stardust”.
